Project London

When I first started work on the graphic novel, I read a couple graphic novels that seemed interesting and used that as my point of departure. It was good: they taught me a couple fundamental lessons about comic structure. But recently I started reading comic book theory, and my head exploded. Folk like Scott McCloud and Will Eisner have analyzed their craft and written fantastically interesting books that not only break down the logic of the comic book, but dive into issues of identification and perception that apply to all forms of art-making. Genius. I hope I am able to represent some of the new insight they have given me in my work over the next few weeks.

Currently I'm going back over dialogue for the book, to weave a tighter relationship between the pictures and the words. After that I'm going to restructure some storyboarding that has left me less than satisfied over the last couple of months, before I continue on to finish the mock-up pages left to be done. I'm aiming to get all of that done by the end of the month.

While we're on the topic of practicality, I additionally made the logical decision to change all the characters in Project London into talking woodland creatures, Bambi style. Nothing is more hardcore than beavers fighting in armored exosuits.
